| Ilioinguinal Nerve Block The ilioinguinal nerve provides sensory innervation to the groin, perineal, and inner thigh. The nerve wraps above the iliac crest from the spine and travels into the groin. Because of its location, this nerve can readily be damaged from causes such as surgery, trauma, and infections. Patients can experience severe nerve pain into the groin, labia, testes, and inner thigh. The first line of treatment is medications designed for nerve pain. However, if these medications do not provide good pain relief then the ilioinguinal nerve can be blocked. This treatment is advantageous because it is both diagnostic and therapeutic. Depending on the results of the injections, future treatment options can be considered, including ablation of the nerve and neuromodulation. |
